Printer’s Ally Suggestions: One step away from Broadway is Printer’s Ally (printing district circa 1915 turned speakeasies over history). Meander your way over there if you are looking for non-country music options.
Skulls Rainbow Room – Jazz and burlesque
Miss Kitty’s Karaoke – Okay so it is live music, it just may not be good..it’s a whole vibe tho!
Writer’s Rounds / Original Music: Please leave Broadway. I beg you! Broadway is (mostly) cover bands and although it’s a whole vibe, if you want to hear what makes Nashville so special, venture out of downtown. Nashville is home to so many incredible songwriters. Go hear them singing their hits or their next hits. You may not recognize them, but you’ll probably recognize some of their songs.
Bluebird Cafe – It’s a classic and one of the most well known historic spaces in Nashville for songwriters. It is, however, hard to get tickets because it’s a teeny tiny venue.
The Listening Room – A great option that you can easily buy tickets for. Usually tickets are under $20/ each.
Live Oak – No ticket/cover to get in. Usually different writers/acoustic performances every day of the week. This is a bar. They have food and drinks and usually some really great writers/performers! Pretty chill vibe. (Pro Trip: Go on a Wednesday. Start at Tailgate Brewery and Pizza for half price dine-in pizza, then walk down the street to enjoy some live music).
The Local – Super chill vibes, right by Centennial Park / Parthenon, so there is also plenty of free parking around (amen). Another bar that hosts writers’ rounds.
Station Inn – This intimate venue is filled with incredibly talented musicians. It’s mosty bluegrass and bluegrass inspired tunes. I would definitely recommend!
The Palace – You can go for line-dancing in the back dance hall, but up front near the bar they always have artists playing more traditional country western or bluegrass music. I have seen so many talented acoustic and full-band shows here. If you like fiddles, steel guitars, or even the occasional standing-bass, this place is for you!
Favorite Nashville Area Concert Venues: All of the above suggestions are more chill vibes. However, if you’re looking for a straight-up concert experience, I have some favorite venue suggestions as well. Keep in mind, the following will typically require tickets well in advance and be at a higher price point.
Grand Ole Opry – Classic. Historic. Amazing. Worth the hype.
The Ryman – Classic. Historic. Amazing. Worth the hype. (The original “Mother Church” that hosted WSM, Grand Ole Opry Show, before the Opry moved to a larger facility. They still have many concerts here, where you can sit in the OG pews and resonate in the beautiful stained glass windows.
First Bank Amphitheater- This is south of Nashville about 40 minutes, but it is one of my all-time favorites for the vibes. It’s an outdoor venue in a rock quarry. Picture Tennessee’s version of “Red Rocks Amphitheater”. Also has free parking and is just a beautiful chunk of land that brings in some really fun bands!
